Megatron is the unquestioned leader of the Decepticons, ruling through sheer force, tyranny and the fact that he is the most powerful of them - even the much larger Decepticons tremble at the thought of his arm-mounted fusion cannon turning its sights on them; because, while it would take them several hits to incapacitate the stalwart Megatron, it would take just one blast from him to end it for them.
There was a time, long ago, when Megatron wasn't quite what we know him to be today, the mortal enemy of the noble Optimus Prime. They were once co-rulers of their world Cybertron, before one brother (yes; they're related) decided he wanted all the power. Pursuing the source of Transformers power, the All-Spark, is what precipitated the fall of Cybertron, as Optimus Prime had to shoot it far away into the depths of space to get away from the maniacal Megatron, dooming their planet in the process, for Cybertron was sustained by the life-energies of the Spark. Their battle would span the reaches of space-time, until the two brothers would find themselves on Earth.
Possessing no specific weakness, Megatron wields a formidable array of weaponry, more than any Autobot and more than most Decepticons (the huge Decepticons, like Blackout, may have more weapons simply due to their sheer size). The power of his weapons surpasses all other robots, except perhaps Optimus Prime, particularly since the latter wields his Energon blades with such consummate skill. Megatron's previously mentioned fusion cannon has a super-mode that can exponentially increase its power by using an extra-dimensional black-hole to tap into antimatter energy. The fusion aspect can take out a town; the antimatter, a state. It is clearly a weapon best used in space.
A few of Megatron's other physical attributes in his goal of flat-out conquest are fearsome unto themselves. Like his arch nemesis Prime, he can wield an Energon flail, Morningstar-look-alike that simply brutalizes opponents, maiming them for the finish with a back-mounted cannon, electrical blasts, or lasers from his optics. As if these weren't enough, his alt-mode can vehicle can scatter a battlefield: a Cybertronian tank; you've got to see it to believe it. What's worse is that this monstrosity can fly, jet-like. Megatron uses all of these weapons in his eternal scheming against the only thing that stands in the way of his eventual date with the Spark: Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Alas - for him; he would never reach his goal, as his brother Optimus finally succeeded in killing him untold centuries after their rule on Cybertron had ended. With Megatron, however, the question always bubbles just under the surface: will the Dark Lord rise again?
