How To Produce A Movie

In this article I will go over the difficult challenge of producing a movie. It takes a lot of time and money to produce films, and some people are better off just watching movies instead of producing them. So your first task is picking the right script, this can be time consuming but it's a huge role in producing a film. You want to choose a script that won't have too many expenses and could break your bank. Once you feel you have the right script you need to hire a team to work behind the scenes, hiring a producer is extremely important so look for a producer with experience. Your producer will be in charge of hiring the many roles you will need like a director, production manger, production designer, make-up artist and you may need to hire someone to create your costumes.

Hiring a director is a very important task because your entire movie rest in this mans hands, he will either make or break your film. Now you can check with the Directors Guild of America for help in hiring your director. Once that task is complete you will need to hold a casting call. Your casting director will be in charge of looking over the headshots you received and deciding who to call to offer auditions. After deciding the roles of your actors and handing out the parts they play in your movie you will discuss salary with their agents or managers. Now most actors will work for scale which is basically minimum wage for actors.

Ok so you have your characters roles filled and your crew hired so your next step is to let your crew begin shooting your film. Since you have a director and you hired your crew and actors you will not be as involved in the next steps so let your team do what you hired them to do. You will have tons of footage to go through and a lot of it may get trashed but you should have an editor hired and this will be his job to go through and piece your footage together. Now you can give your input to your director and editor but in the end it is their final word when making the final cut. So trust them this is why you hired them.

Once your team is done filming and then editing your movie this is when you are needed. You will be in charge of distributing your movie and this can be your most challenging task. There are thousands of films created each year and being a new comer to producing a film it will be hard to get your film out there. Now you can distribute your movie over the internet through You Tube but don't expect your outcome to be that great. Your best chance of getting your film out there is submitting it to a well respected film festival. This gives your film a chance to be seen by some prestigious companies because they send their reps to these festivals to seek new films. So if you decide you want to give producing a film a shot keep in mind it is no easy task and can be quite expensive but with some hard work and a little luck you can produce a movie.
